Lead Pastor

Tim1.JPG

Tim’s quite familiar with the life of a missionary. He was born to missionary Pastor Tom and Sandy Spiegelberg in Menomonie Falls, WI where he spent the first year of his life. As a toddler he moved to Eagle River, Alaska until he was eight, and then on to Grand Junction, CO where he spent the remainder of his childhood. Tim has an older sister, Becca Manchester who resides in Cody, Wyoming; an older brother, Thomas Spiegelberg who is a missionary in St. Lucia, West Indies; and a younger brother, Marcus Spiegelberg who lives in Miami, Florida. Tim attended high school at Martin Luther Preparatory School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin,  graduating in 1994. After high school Tim attended college at Northwestern College in Watertown, WI; Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN; and received his Master's of Divinity at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Thiensville, WI.

Jamie Spiegelberg (Benrud,) was born to Michael and Carol Benrud in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She also attended Martin Luther Preparatory School in Prairie du Chien, where she and Tim met. She was part of the last graduating class at MLPS in 1995. Pursuing her dream of being a registered nurse, she attended Mankato State in MN, and finalized her education at Alverno College in Milwaukee, WI.  Jamie and Tim were married on December 31, 1999. She graduated from Alverno college with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing on May 19, 2001. Tim received his internship call four days later on May 23, and their first son, Theron James (20) was born that night. Two weeks later their newly formed family headed to Neenah, WI where they would call home for the duration of Tim's internship year at Martin Luther Church. The following year brought their second son, Drew Isaac (18,) and Tim's graduation from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Tim's first assignment was to St. James in North Branch, MI, where the family enjoyed the rural location for 6 years. Both of their girls (Keira Lynne, 17 and Tatum Carolea, 14) were born in Michigan. While in Michigan Tim and the members of St. James attempted to start a new mission in the neighboring town of Lapeer.  While the mission did not flower into a full church many lessons were learned and faith strengthened.

Tim accepted a call to a mission setting at Hope in Toronto, Canada, December of 2008. The view changed drastically from cornfields, turkey and deer, to cars, buildings and people! Jamie finally had the luxury of a grocery store in town! The six years spent at Hope in Toronto were a wonderful mix of Caribbean culture, steel pan music, curry, immigrants and loving people.   God blessed the mutual work done in Toronto as the congregation grew in faith and numbers.

May of 2015 Tim accepted a call as an exploratory missionary to serve the Firestone, Frederick, Dacono, (Carbon Valley).  Since that time CVL has established itself as a fixture in the community, and recently opened their first worship building. There's nothing Pastor Tim would rather be doing than planting and growing local congregations to advance God's kingdom.

Staff minster

Arik McGathey was born and raised in Crete, IL, about 40 minutes south of Chicago. There he attended Lutheran grade school and Illinois Lutheran High School. While there he was active in sports, band and choir, and played guitar with the praise band at Trinity in Crete.  After high school, Arik headed up to Milwaukee to attend Wisconsin Lutheran College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition. This is where he met his wife, Lisa McGathey (Johnston).  Lisa went to St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Lecanto, FL before trading beach for dairyland to attend Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, WI followed by WLC. She graduated with a major in business and psychology while working at a preschool and child care.  Arik and Lisa were married on December 30, 2012. After a year and a half of married life in Milwaukee, the couple decided to spend six months volunteering at a home for single mothers in Aurora, CO. During those six months, the Colorado bug bit. At the end of the six months, the McGatheys moved up to Arvada.

Arik was hesitant to take on the position of music coordinator, but soon realized the incredible blessing it is to be a member of this community of believers. The McGatheys decided to move to Firestone to truly join the community, and Arik is now serving as the music and youth coordinator and pursuing his staff ministry certification through Martin Luther College so that he can better serve the members of CVL and the Carbon Valley community.

Arik, Lisa, and their daughters Eloise (4) and Josephine (2) love going to local parks and events, exploring new hikes, and singing songs together.
